Werner Heider is a freelance composer, pianist and conductor in Erlangen. He studied with Willy Spilling in Nürnberg and at the conservatory in Munich, with Karl Höller, Maria Landes-Hindemith and Heinrich Knappe. On multiple occasions, he visited the Darmstadt holiday courses for new music. In 1968, he founded the «ars nova ensemble nürnberg», together with Klaus Hashagen.
